Frequently Asked Questions

Where does the training take place?

The training is conducted at various venues within the HRM. To find the exact venue for a training session please go to our online schedule (here) and click on the individual entries to see the venue and other relevant information for that training session.

What do players need to wear to participate in the training?

In order to participate in the training sessions all goalkeepers must wear:

  • Goalkeeper Jersey
  • Gloves
  • Shorts/Pants
  • Socks
  • Shin Pads
  • Cleats and/or Indoor Soccer Shoes (depending on the facility playing surface)

Goalkeepers must purchase their own gear. Loaner equipment is not available. Goalkeepers must have appropriate jersey. T-shirts, sweatshirts, and hoodies are not acceptable training attire.

Who is eligible to participate in the training?

Any goalkeepers currently eligible to play U10-U16 may participate in the training designated for their age group provided that they are currently registered with one of our partner clubs. Our current partners consist of the following clubs:

  • Atlantic S.C.
  • Halifax County United
  • Suburban FC
  • East Hants Rednex
  • Sackville United
  • Bedford Titans
  • Scotia SC
  • Storm SC

Players must also be full time goalkeepers in order to participate in the training. We consider any player who spends at least 50% of their playing time in goal to be a full time goalkeeper. The training is not intended for players who play as goalkeepers on a rotational basis, or for experimentating with the position to "see if I like it."

Once the player has made to commitment to become a full-time goalkeeper they are welcome to attend the training sessions.

If I am not registered with a partner club can I participate?

We are no longer accepting individual registrations from goalkeepers outside of our official club partnerships.

Goalkeepers who were previously registered have been grandfathered into the program, but no new goalkeepers will be accepted at this time.

Goalkeepers who still wish to participate are encouraged to petition their local club regarding becoming an official partner.

We are simply no longer willing to support clubs who are not also willing to do their share.

What does the training cost?

The training is free for any goalkeepers who are registered with one of our partner clubs. All training costs are covered through your club membership fees.

For those goalkeepers outside of our official partnerships there is a small fee to participate. It is $5.00 per session. Goalkeepers only pay for those sessions that they participate in.

What sessions am I allowed to attend?

Although many sessions are 'sponsored' by other clubs, all of our goalkeepers are eligible to attend any sessions throughout the week designated for their age group. For example, that means goalkeepers currently registered with Halifax County United may still attend sessions sponsored by Suburban SC free of charge, and vice versa.

Goalkeepers outside the official membership may also attend any sessions designated for their age group regardless of who is 'sponsoring', but the training fee still applies.

This offers goalkeepers and their families tremendous flexibility when planning their weekly schedules. Goalkeepers are encouraged to attend as many sessions as their schedule will allow.

Goalkeepers may also adjust their schedule from week to week, and are not required to attend the same sessions on a weekly basis.

Goalkeepers should adjust their attendance and commitment levels based their own personal aspirations. The simplae fact is, the more you train, the better you will become.

I see other goalkeepers wearing the official "Serious Goalkeeping" jersey. Can I get one?
Serious Goalkeeping - Official Kit

Any goalkeeper registered with the academy is eligible to get the official jersey. Goalkeepers must purchase a 'Uhlsport' brand jersey in any style or color of their choosing from SoccerStop.

Then for a small additional fee of $15.00 the jersey will be crested with the goalkeepers last name, number and website url on the back of the jersey, and the Serious Goalkeeping and SoccerStop logos on the front of the jersey.

From time to time we will do video shoots and or photo sessions, etc. Only goalkeepers who have the official jersey and who wear Uhlsport gear (gloves, shorts, socks, etc.) are eligible to participate.
